ABOUT AIGW

Australian Indigenous Grasstrees & Wildflowers was first launched on February 1st 2017.

It was started by Kerri-Ann Currie and Nathan Nehow with the aim of getting our mob back out in the bush.

The reason for this is simple yet powerful.

That being, we could strengthen our connection to country, our identity, our culture and traditions and our communities by simply being in the bush working and making a dollar at the same time.  The way I see it is that we used to trade fish for kangaroo for example but things have changed.  So why can’t we work on our country and make a living from it at the same time.  We work with Traditional Owners, utilising their knowledge, culture and traditions on how the land was.  For example, when we are doing a cultural garden we work with TO’s so we can incorporate native Australian plants that belong there and remove the ones that don’t.  The magic that comes with that is we learn what these plants where used for in hunting, medicine, food, culture, seasons and traditions.

Since then we have evolved into a native florist, cultural gardens & landscaping as well as conservation of protected plant species in Queensland.

My uncle Koiki (Eddie Mabo) fought for our native title and now that we have our land back, what are we going to do with it?
